From Mashle and his casual dismissal of the laws of physics to Abyss Razor and his reality-breaking magic, there are a lot of powerful characters in the world of Mashle: Magic & Muscles.

The slapstick comedy of the anime somehow meshes well with the, at times, serious subject matters. While the comedy is definitely the most prominent feature of the show, the fights aren’t anything to scoff at either. The different personal magics keep the viewer engaged, and every new character is a tank in its own right.

10 Dot

Dot Barret when he first manifests the Ira Kreuz

A part of the main cast of characters, Dot is one of the freshmen in Adler dorm and a friend of Mash. He has a very vibrant and honest personality. Though he can come off as abrasive at times, he is a good person at heart.

As a magic user, Dot’s power isn’t particularly inspiring or interesting. He just shoots fireballs. However, he possesses the venerated ‘Ira Kreuz’ that activates when he experiences strong emotions, leading to an incredible spike in magic power. On top of that, Dot utilizes his seemingly simple magic in interesting ways, making him a formidable opponent.

9 Abel Walker

Abel Walker

The main antagonist of the Magia Lupus arc, Abel Walker, is a Divine Visionary candidate and a three-liner with immense magical powers. A purist through and through, Abel has a change of heart when Mash defeats him and beats some sense into his skull.

Abel’s personal magic relates to puppeteering. He can change people into puppets, control people with very thin magic strings that are invisible to the naked eye, and sap people of their magic power using special rituals. Although Mash defeated him in the end, it took the physical behemoth a decent amount of effort to do so.

8 Abyss Razor

Abyss Razor

The second seat of Magia Lupus and Abel’s subordinate, Abyss Razor, is arguably even more powerful than his own boss. He had a very tragic childhood, and because of this, he has confidence issues that hold him back. He doesn’t really have any aspirations of his own, with his only desire being to protect Abel, his savior, from harm.

Abyss Razor has not one but two magics that make him incredibly formidable. He has the ‘Evil Eye’ that cancels any magic that he sees, and he has acceleration magic. When utilized properly, his eye can make him go toe to toe with the strongest magic user. That, combined with his interesting and unique acceleration magic, makes him a very formidable opponent.

7 Lance Crown

Lance Crown

The deuteragonist of the show and a double-liner at the start, Lance Crown, is one of the most powerful characters in the entire series. In the current season of the anime, Lance isn’t very powerful. However, given time, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

As a double liner, Lance has access to a large amount of magic power. He uses this to its fullest in his personal magic, Graviole, which allows him to manipulate gravity.

6 Orter Madl

Orter Madl

Orter is a member of the Magic Power Administration and a powerful Divine Visionary. The anime hasn’t shed much light on his powers or abilities, but there’s no doubt that he’s a powerhouse in his own right. After all, the more handsome the character, the more powerful they’ll turn out to be.

Orter will have a bigger role to play in the Execution arc that will be covered in the next season. His personal magic, sands, will also be explored in that season. Long story short, he can make and control sand.

5 Rayne Ames

Rayne Ames

The only Divine Visionary who’s been given a decent amount of screen time so far, Rayne Ames has shown himself deserving of his position in the venerated council protecting the kingdom. He’s the brother of Finn Ames, a member of Mash’s posse of friends, and he is the current prefect for Adler Dorm.

His personal magic revolves around conjuring swords and controlling them to bombard the enemy with nearly unblockable projectiles. The sheer amount of projectiles is enough to keep even the toughest enemies occupied. Rayne could not even make a dent in Mash’s defense, but he realized who Mash was before he unleashed his full power, defusing the situation before it could devolve into a life-or-death battle.

4 Cell War

Cell War Summoning a Portal

The first appearance of a member of the Innocent Zero faction, Cell War, is a religious caricature. He has a crown of thorns and floats around instead of walking, giving him an extra menacing aura.

Not much is known about Cell in the anime. He has telekinetic abilities, being capable of making Abel choke himself to death. He can also fly or at least float. Furthermore, he can open portals with ease. He was able to hold back Mash without any real effort on his part.

3 Headmaster Wahlberg

Headmaster Wahlberg

One of the most powerful magicians alive, Headmaster Wahlberg, is one of the supporting characters in Mashle. He recognizes Mash’s abilities from the start and puts him through a cruel and unusual test during his interview. However, Mash manages to impress the headmaster and earns his recognition as a good candidate to become a Divine Visionary.

The personal magic of Headmaster Wahlberg is largely unknown. However, it is likely that his magic is focused on summoning different types of environments to confuse his opponents and deal a high amount of damage. Furthermore, due to his old age, he will surely have different tricks up his sleeve.

2 Mash

Mashle Magic and Muscles

The main character of the story, set in a world full of magic, is entirely non-magical. Relying on your muscles to overcome magic might seem like a bad idea because it is, but Mash makes it work. It’s likely that he possesses a special constitution that lets him complete inhumane feats of strength and dexterity, making him a great foil to the magic-centric society he lives in.

As a non-magic user, Mash is actually at an advantage against most opponents he goes against. People expect him to whip out a wand and start casting magic. Instead, he whips straight to them and starts casting punches. The strength that Mash possesses shouldn’t be underestimated. He is easily more powerful than most of the magic-using population, and that’s before his training arc has even begun.

1 Innocent Zero

Innocent Zero demonic and perfect being forms in Mashle manga

Innocent Zero is an elusive man who shares his name with the secret society he heads. He is seemingly the big villain of the series, kind of like Pain from Naruto is the head of the Akatsuki. His abilities, appearance, and past are all unknown at the moment, but there’s no doubt that he’s going to be a formidable opponent to the main characters.

We do know that Innocent Zero, the organization, is currently under investigation. Cell War, a powerful individual, is a member of this same organization and is seemingly looking for Mash. Innocent Zero, the villain, also shares a past with Headmaster Wahlberg.
