Almost three decades after they last starred opposite each other in Khal Nayak, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff have reunited. However, the reunion is brief, for a special music video from Madhuri’s latest web series. In a video posted by Jackie on social media, the two actors can be seen turning back the clocks as they dance to the song. Fans reacted in the comments, expressing their happiness at seeing the two actors reunite. Madhuri recently starred in Netflix’s new web series The Fame Game. In it, she plays a fictitious Bollywood superstar named Anamika Khanna, whose sudden disappearance brings the dark side of fame to the fore. The song Dupatta Mera was shown briefly in the series as a song from a film Anamika was shooting. After the series was aired, the producers released a full video of Madhuri’s performance on the song. On Friday, actors Jackie Shroff, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Johnny Lever shared the videos matching steps with Madhuri on the song as well.
In the video Jackie posted on Twitter and Instagram, he is seen in his 90s avatar dancing with Madhuri. “Adding one more iconic Madhuri Dixit track to our playlist. It’s been a privilege to share the dance floor with you,” he wrote on Twitter alongside the video.
Fans commented with their appreciation for the moment. “Such a treat to see sir and mam in one frame after so long. Please save this moment for years to come,” one fan replied to Jackie’s tweet. Another fan commented, “Wait! What!!!!!! Wasn’t expecting you guys together again.” Another comment read, “Beautiful pair of 90’s, it’s perfect.” Madhuri and Jackie worked together in a number of films like 100 Days (1991) and Khal Nayak (1993).
Riteish Deshmukh also shared a similar video of himself dancing with Madhuri on the song on his Instagram. “Just to be in the same frame with her dancing was magical,” he is heard saying in a voice-over in the video. Comedian Johnny Lever gave his own funny twist to the dance in a video he posted on Instagram. “See it to believe it,” he captioned the video.
Speaking to Hindustan Times earlier about The Fame Game, Madhuri had said, “I’m not playing myself. I did that in a film called Dharavi, where I am Madhuri Dixit, who comes in Om Puri’s dreams. There, I was playing myself. Here, it is a character I’m playing. Yes, the character has some experiences that I have like fame and being a big star. What she is actually going through is very different from me.”
The Fame Game began streaming on Netflix on February 25. The show has been created by Sri Rao with the episodes directed by Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli. It also stars Manav Kaul, Suhasini Mulay, Lakshvir Saran, Muskkan Jaferi, Rajshri Deshpande, and Gagan Arora.
