Madame Web: Spider-Woman Actress Sydney Sweeney Talks About Her Spider-Verse Debut and Working With Dakota Johnson

A Madame Web movie has been known to be in development at Sony for a long time, but the studio continues to keep the details under wraps. However, we now have a comment on the upcoming movie from Sydney Sweeney, who is known to be playing Julia Carpenter, aka, Spider-Woman. Here’s more on what the Euphoria star has to say.

Madame Web will be a powerhouse of badass females, says Sweeney

In a conversation with Total Film Magazine (via GamesRadar), Sweeney revealed that the movie is going to be a “powerhouse of badass females”. Of course, given how secretive Sony themselves are being about Madame Web, Sweeney could not divulge a lot of details either. She said,

“I can’t wait to be able to be next to the girls that I filmed with – Dakota and Isabela, and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I’m really excited that it’s just gonna be a powerhouse of badass females for the world to see.”

In the interview, Sweeney also spoke about her love for superheroes and the Marvel universe.

“Superheroes have been my entire life! Those [films] are all my parents ever wanted to go see. I think I’ve seen The Avengers probably 20, 30-plus times. My family, they love [them]… I could not have made them happier choosing to do that project [Madame Web].”

Madame Web will be expanding the existing Spider-verse universe of Sony which includes Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy in collaboration with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the two Venom films, Morbius, and the latest Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse. Madame Web will be introducing some new characters including the very first Spider-Woman, to be portrayed by Sydney Sweeney. Dakota Johnson on the other hand has been cast as the titular character of Madame Web, alongside Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon, Emma Roberts as Mary Parker and Adam Scott as Ben Parker.

The movie is being directed by S.J. Clarkson, with Kerem Sanga, Matta Sazama and Burk Sharpless as the writers. Madame Web now has a release date of February 16, 2024.
