M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap Is A Psychological Thriller Set At A Concert

It turns out M. Night Shyamalan’s new film Trap is a psychological thriller set at a concert.

Appearing at CineEurope (and reported by Deadline), the acclaimed filmmaker revealed some new details about his upcoming movie, saying simply that it’s a “psychological thriller set at a concert”.

Of course, there’s probably more to it than that – it is Shyamalan, after all.

At the moment, little is known about Trap, except that it’s due for release sometime in 2024. It was first announced back in February and is set to be Shyamalan’s sixteenth feature film.

“I have a new idea that I’ve started writing,” he told NME. “It’s out in 2024 and it’s very, very exciting. It’s a thriller. It’s very unusual and very new compared to what I’ve been trying to do [recently], but I’m feeling very excited about the story, so much so that I can’t wait to tell it to you guys.”

I will say this, the angle into the story is why it’s so exciting. The story might be something that you’ve seen before but the angle is very, very unique – the point of view

Shyamalan’s last five movies have been distributed by Universal Pictures, including the recent mystical thriller Old, but Trap will mark his first film as part of a new deal with Warner Bros. where he said he’s “excited” to join the company.

“I love that feeling, that electricity of ‘wow, I can’t wait for you to see it’,” he said of the new film. “I will say this, the angle into the story is why it’s so exciting. The story might be something that you’ve seen before but the angle is very, very unique – the point of view.”

Shyamalan is renowned for his twist endings, so whatever happens in Trap, you can bet it won’t be as straightforward as it first seems.

He’s also attached as a producer to his daughter Ishana’s directorial debut, The Watchers. However, if you were hoping for a sequel to Knock at the Cabin, you’re out of luck.

“I probably wouldn’t [do another sequel],” he told Comicbook.com. “Originally, Unbreakable was supposed to be a trilogy, so that’s the way I thought of it, as a long story. Beyond that, not really.”
