Koei Tecmo’s anime action game One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 will receive three new character packs starting this September. The first pack will introduce Luffy’s latest transformation, the Gear 5, as seen in the Onigashima Battle of the Wano arc.
According to Famitsu, the character packs will be available for purchase as a set through the Character Pass 2, which will go on sale in Japan on July 24 this year. It has not yet been confirmed if overseas players will be able to purchase the Character Pass 2 on the same day as the Japanese players. By purchasing the pass, players will be able to obtain Trafalgar Law’s “Onigashima Decisive Battle” costume in addition to the characters.
The first pack containing Luffy is called the ‘Onigashima Final Battle Pack’. More specifically, it will be a new version of Luffy (Onigashima Battle Luffy) that can transform into Gear 5 in mid-battle. A note on the Famitsu website also confirms this fact, mentioning that “Luffy can only be controlled while in 5th gear when using a special move,” so he won’t be a fully transformed character from the start.
The pack will also include two unconfirmed characters, and each pack will have a total of three characters. This means that the pass will introduce a total of nine characters in total. The other packs have two characters that are currently depicted as silhouettes, but are easily recognizable as Uta from the latest One Piece movie Red and Gold D. Roger, the original Pirate King from the anime.
This is not the first time One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 gets characters related to the latest Wano arc. There’s also the Land of Wano Pack, which features the three playable characters Kin’emon, O-Kiku, and Kozuki Oden. Currently, all of the game’s extra content (Character Pass, anime-inspired packs, etc..) are available at 80-90% off on various platforms thanks to the Summer Sale, so players are advised to purchase them now if they are interested in the game.
Gear 5 is Luffy’s final and most powerful transformation at the moment. He achieves this form during the final battle with the beast Kaido on Onigashima, and it gives him amazing durability and absurd powers such as running through the air while creating enough friction to ignite fire in his wake.
