Ludwig has stated in his recent live stream that Elden Ring speedruns are cringe, and he is not totally wrong if we think about it.

Ludwig often watches speed runs and reacts to them, and this time he chose Elden Ring. If you aren’t aware, Elden Ring speed runs are going absolutely crazy, with the fastest one being down to less than 7 minutes at the time of writing this article (until it changes once again). Just like everyone else, Ludwig is absolutely speechless after seeing the glitches at the start of the game. One viewer states that this is where speed runs get boring, but Ludwig states that he disagrees with them as seeing the game being beaten in this way is exciting. He goes on to say as humans if something looks good and is fun to watch, then it is good. The visual aspect of the zip makes it exciting. However, this opinion changes pretty quickly.
Ludwig Calls Elden Ring Speedruns Cringe & We Can’t Disagree
After Distortion2 beats Maliketh and reaches Leyndell, Ashen Capital, Ludwig realizes that the speed runs don’t involve fighting a single enemy at all. Surprised by the revelation, he states that he rescinds the comment and states this speed run is cringe because players don’t fight a single enemy. He appreciates the novelty of the idea and states that it is funny, but goes on to say that it is not watchable more than once.
Taking nothing away from the effort put in by Distortion2 and the other speed runners, it isn’t wrong to say that Elden Ring speed runs have actually lost their essence. When one is speed running the game, it should be more about using their skills to play the game the way it is meant to be played, and still be the fastest one to do it. While one might argue that the zip requires skills too, and we don’t disagree with that, the fact still remains that it is not the way the game was intended to be played.
