Liam Hemsworth Reading The Witcher Books and Training Heavily for His Geralt Role

Liam Hemsworth is taking up the sword as Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of The Witcher, and his co-stars have offered some insight into his dedication to the role.

Speaking at The Witcher Season 3 press junket, Jaskier star Joey Batey told IGN that he hadn’t offered any advice to Hemsworth in taking over the lead role from Henry Cavill because he is already facing “a lot” but asserted that the entire cast is as committed as ever to the series.

“We wouldn’t really give advice,” he admitted. “I think our job is to welcome him, as we would to any new cast member, is to say ‘Come on in, we know it’s a lot, it’s a lot, there’s a lot going on,’ and to listen and be patient and commit as hard as we have done this far.”

While the cast didn’t have any words of wisdom to share with Hemsworth, Batey told GamesRadar+ he keeps an open line of communication with his new co-star when he isn’t busy exercising his body or mind, with his head down in the show’s source material.

“We’ve been emailing, we’ve been exchanging our favorite quotes from the books and things like that,” Batey revealed. “I don’t think any of us are in the position to advise on playing Geralt, but he’s throwing himself into it. His training regime is insane, and he’s been devouring the books.”

“I’m very excited to see Liam,” Dijkstra actor Graham McTavish added, offering his two cents on the new casting of Geralt. “I only met his brother many years ago, before he became Thor. They’re a lovely family and I think Liam brings something really interesting to the role.”

The Witcher executive producers Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski previously said the transition to Hemsworth’s Geralt will be a “flawless” one as they have a “very good plan” on how to introduce him, pulling on deep meta ideas from the original book series by Andrzej Sapkowski.

However, before any of that, we will see Henry Cavill’s final outing as the White Wolf in the upcoming third season of The Witcher, which will unfold across two parts, with episodes one to five premiering tomorrow on June 29 and episodes six to eight coming later on July 27.
