leica: Xiaomi may use Leica-branded cameras for its next flagship – Times of India

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new smartphone that may feature Leica-branded cameras. XDA Developers reports that references to Leica were discovered within the Chinese MIUI Gallery Editor app. These references are related to vlogging filters with monochrome, natural, and vivid options.
Previously, Leica collaborated with another Chinese smartphone maker Huawei for its P20 series of smartphones and has been on the company’s smartphones since then. Leica might be now partnering with another major OEM to add cameras to its devices.
For reference, Huawei smartphones that came with Leica-branded cameras offered monochrome images (either through software or a monochrome camera) along with standard, vivid and smooth colour filters in the device’s camera app.
However, it is important to note that the Leica references were found in the Gallery app and not in the Camera app. These references will also be added to the Camera app when the partnership is confirmed. Xiaomi has not commented on the partnership yet.
This is not the only partnership between a camera brand and an Android OEM that took place in recent years. In 2021, OnePlus collaborated with Hasselblad and later Oppo joined the team, whereas Vivo partnered with Zeiss to develop cameras for its high-end phones.
These partnerships aim to focus on various aspects of photography. OnePlus and Hasselblad’s partnership worked on colour science while Vivo and Zeiss’ collaboration focused on enhancing portrait photography and reducing light flares.
