The first phase of polling for the assembly election in Gujarat got underway at 8 am today. People were seen queuing up outisde the polling stations and waiting for their turn to cast their vote. In this phase, polling is being held on 89 seats. The BJP is hoping to return to power for a seventh consecutive time, while its main rival AAP is trying to make inroads into the saffron-dominated state. Congress has had a reduced visibility during campaigning.
