Latam on July 1, 2023, will launch a direct flight between São Paulo and Los Angeles, where passengers will be able to connect on Delta Air Lines flights, the carriers announced Wednesday. It is the first new destination added since the U.S. Department of Transportation approved their joint venture in September.

Latam will operate the roundtrip flight three times weekly with Boeing 777 aircraft with capacity for 410 passengers—38 in Premium Business, 50 in Economy Plus and 322 in Economy, according to the carrier.

In addition, both carriers announced flight frequency increases.

As of September 2023, Latam is set to have five frequencies between Santiago, Chile, and Los Angeles, up from three, adding more than 900 seats to the destination, according to the carrier. The São Paulo-Orlando route in October 2023 will increase to four times weekly, adding 600 seats. Between Lima, Peru and Miami, flights will increase to 17 weekly from 14, adding more than 1,300 seats. The Lima-New York route will increase to 12 weekly frequencies from seven, with more than 2,200 seats added. The Lima-Los Angeles route will double to 14 weekly frequencies, adding more than 3,400 seats.

Delta previously announced expanded frequencies between Atlanta and Buenos Aires and Santiago. Further changes include an upgrade to Airbus 350 aircraft in February for Atlanta-Lima service, adding more than 1,700 weekly seats, per the carrier. Delta’s New York JFK-São Paulo route on Oct. 29 increased to daily service from three times weekly. On Dec. 17, the carrier will add a seasonal second flight between Atlanta and São Paulo. The seasonal route between Atlanta and Rio de Janeiro will resume Dec. 17.
