Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming film focused on the long-time Spider-Man villain, has received its first trailer and poster, and the footage shown features a ton of violence, a rift between a father and son, and a glimpse of The Rhino.
Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on October 6, 2023, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is starring as the Spidey villain that first made an appearance in 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man #15.
The poster, which you can see below, is very reminiscent of the cover of 2018’s The Amazing Spider-Man #17, with Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven sitting atop a throne of bones.
As for the trailer, which you can see above, it begins with Kraven running through a city in street clothes. We also catch a glimpse of Kraven’s dad, Russell Crowe’s Nikolai Kravinoff, and the relationship between the father and soon is anything but healthy and good.
The messages being shared by Nikolai are all about ensuring you are the predator of any situation and that you can never show weakness. Alongside learning that Nikolai left Kraven’s mother behind to die after she got “weak… sick in her mind,” we see him doing the same thing to his son after he fails to kill a lion.
Kraven does not die, however, and something enters his blood stream that turns him into the superpowered human we know and love/hate. He then becomes who he claims he is meant to be, and can now use animals to help track his prey. As the trailer states, “once you’re on his list, there is only one way off.”
We also get a glimpse that this version of Kraven the Hunter is an anti-hero of sorts, his father “puts evil into the world,” and he takes “it out.” The trailer continues to show excessive violence, including Kraven biting off a poor unfortunate soul’s nose, a striking shot with a bunch of spiders, and, perhaps most exciting, a glimpse of Aleksei Sytsevich becoming the Rhino.
