The department, on Tuesday, issued detailed guidelines to teachers and lab assistants for the safe conduct of the practical exams.
Earlier, a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on May 22 had decided to permit the practical exams. As per the schedule, the practical exams of NSQF/VHSE will be held from June 21 and those of higher secondary will be held from June 28.
Earlier, higher secondary practical exams were scheduled to begin on June 22 before complaints were made by students and teachers regarding lack of preparation. The government decided to allow students to go to their respective schools in small groups following Covid protocols and do practical sessions between June 17-25.
The department has decided to modify the exam pattern by reducing the duration, the number of questions/practical sessions for each student as well as avoiding the lab equipment that have high chances of spreading Covid. The duration of Physics exams has been limited to two hours and each student has to do only one experiment. For Chemistry volumetric analysis, a metric jar must be used instead of a pipette. The use of a microscope is not allowed in Botany exams.
All students, teachers and lab assistants will have to wear double facemasks and gloves during the exam. Students, who show variations in thermal scanning will be allowed to appear for the exam in isolation and Covid positive students can appear for the exams only after they turn negative. Exam halls/labs must have proper ventilation and air conditioners should be kept off.
