Several other states have already cancelled these exams. The latest to join the league are Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, which announced cancellation of class 12 exams on Wednesday. The CBSE and CISCE announced cancellation on Tuesday. While Kerala and Bihar have already held the exams, Goa and Telangana have cancelled class 10 exams and are awaiting the decision on class 12.
Student forums like All India Democratic Students’ Organisation are against conducting the exams. “The state committee has released a Google form with a statement on the issue. Thousands of students across the state are signing it and the majority want cancellation of the exam this year,” AIDSO stated.
The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSPCR) also recommended to the government to cancel SSLC exams. “After receiving multiple calls, we conducted a random survey. Around 68.5% of students, teachers, and SDMC members wanted the exam to be cancelled while 31.5% were against it. It will be discrimination towards our students if CBSE has cancelled it and we don’t,” it said.
The departments have given different sets of proposals to the government to decide. Around 8.7 lakh students have registered for SSLC and 6.8 lakh for II PU exams.
