Gojo’s Past Arc took place when Gojo himself was a student at Jujutsu High, before the events of Jujutsu Kaisen season one. While on his mission to protect the Star Plasma Vessel, we see his close relationship with Geto before his turn and the other students around them.
Nanami is introduced in the first season when Gojo requests his help in training Yuji, but season two shows us a very different version of Nanami.
Who Is Kento Nanami
In Gojo’s Past Arc, Nanami is a Jujutsu sorcerer a year below Gojo. While he doesn’t have the brightest of attitudes, he does have a kinder attitude than the man we met in season one, especially towards Yu Haibara.
After the events of Gojo’s Past Arc, Nanami becomes a much colder person, seeing the harsh reality of the Jujutsu world. He blames the Jujutsu World for throwing him into a life of constancy fighting at a young age and wishes he had an actual childhood. After leaving Jujutsu High and joining the real world to work a typical corporate job, he finds both worlds very boring, but being a freelance Jujutsu Sorcerer is the less boring of the two options.
Nanami & Gojo’s Relationship
Nanami is first introduced when Gojo requests Nanami take Yuji in and train him while Gojo is away. While it’s clear the two know each other, their relationship isn’t a straightforward friendship. Their personalities are completely opposite, with Gojo holding on to many immature attitudes and not taking the Jujutsu world as seriously as Nanami, which causes Nanami to not respect him.
While Nanami doesn’t respect Gojo, he does acknowledge his incredible strength but says that strength isn’t what makes a person mature. Despite the lack of respect, the two do trust each other more so than any of the other sorcerers. Nanami trusted Gojo enough to contact him and use his help to get back into the Jujustu world after leaving his regular corporate job. While they have their differences, the Jujutsu world is complex with a lot of flaws, and the two find common ground in that belief.
Nanami’s Powers And Abilities
Nanami fights with a blunt blade wrapped in cloth and occasionally his tie wrapped around his off-hand. Nanami is an expert in hand-to-hand combat and fights by fusing Cursed Energy into his blade to make it sharper and his tie and fist to add more effect to his regular punches. Nanami is an expert at landing the Black Flash technique, though she isn’t able to do it every time due to its difficulty.
Nanami’s Cursed Technique is Overtime, a personal promise he made to himself that developed into a technique. After seeing how boring both worlds’ work can be, he aims to clock out every day by 6 PM. Should he be fighting beyond 6 PM, he gains access to his full potential and more, making him even stronger. Normally, Nanami holds back his Cursed Energy, only fighting with about 80%, while Overtime brings him beyond 110%.
Nanami can also use Ratio Technique, letting him divide his opponent into 7:3 ratios mid-battle and create weak points for him to strike with his blade. Nanami can create these weak points and decide their location himself, making it much easier for him to land these devastating hits on his enemy. Nanami also has a technique called Collapse, which allows him to make a weak point in the environment to hit and destroy the area around the point.
