John Wick Spin-Off The Continental Debuts in September

Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Peacock announced that its John Wick prequel spin-off series, The Continental, will see its first episode debut on September 22, 2023.

The three-part series will release on a weekly cadence, with episode two airing September 29, and the final part out on October 6.

The news was revealed at Comic Con, where those in the hall were treated to an exclusive first look at the series. The story follows a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) in 1970s New York City, and explores the titular assassin hotel that’s stood at the center of the John Wick universe over time.

Notably, The Continental is not supposed to include much, if any John Wick the character at all, though our interview with Basil Iwanyk reassured us that there’ll be plenty of John Wick in spirit – episode 3 has roughly “57 minutes of action” in a 90-minute feature-length episode, and we’ll see younger versions of other characters including Cormac (portrayed, controversially, by Mel Gibson) and Continental concierge Charon (Ayomide Adegun filling the role played in the films by the late Lance Reddick). Other key cast members include Peter Greene, Ben Robson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, and Nhung Kate.

The Continental will air on Peacock as part of a multi-year deal, and while we wait for September, there’s always John Wick 4 to watch on repeat. We gave the fourth chapter in the film series a 10/10, calling it a “modern action masterclass” thanks to “incredibly staged action scenes, engaging ensemble, and stylish production design.”
