JBVO’s Lost Dragon Ball Z Episode Has Finally Been Found

After 23 years, internet archivists have found the lost episode of JBVO featuring a segment of Dragon Ball Z.

The episode of the Johnny Bravo spin-off series was uploaded to the Internet Archive last night by SandersPlanet and Jericho. Lost media YouTuber LSuperSonicQ tweeted the link to the video for those who didn’t know about the episode’s existence.

In this particular episode, which aired on May 7, 2000, a caller named Jennifer requests that Johnny Bravo air an episode of Dragon Ball Z where Goku kills Frieza. The problem was, JBVO had a rule that it couldn’t air half-hour shows despite Dragon Ball Z airing on the Toonami block, so Johnny had to fast-forward the episode for 30 seconds, providing only expositional commentary and Mystery Science Theater 3000-style riffs, which he apologized for.

This episode aired only once, making it virtually impossible to find until now.

JBVO: Your All Request Cartoon Show was a fourth wall-breaking spin-off talk show hosted by Johnny Bravo, who would field requests from young viewers via write-ins and live phone calls to air certain favorite episodes from their favorite Cartoon Network shows, such as Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girl.

It aired almost every Sunday from April 2, 2000 through August 26, 2001, and was Cartoon Network’s second attempt at creating a talk show hosted by an animated character after the The Moxy Show. Both shows were cancelled after only one season; JBVO had 28 episodes.

The JBVO discovery is one part of an ongoing effort by fans to uncover and preserve animation history. Other discoveries include lost footage from the American version of Sailor Moon, scripts from lost Pokémon episodes, and more. You can find more archived JBVO clips here.
