James Corden makes peculiar career change teasing Guitar Hero return

Since leaving the Late Late Show, James Corden is seemingly shifting his career as he was the unlikely host for one of fans’ most anticipated announcements earlier this week.

The former Hollywood resident has relocated to the UK after ending his television hosting career and has pivoted to live hosting as he made a bizarre appearance at an Activision company meeting.

The beloved game publishing company is behind iconic gaming titles from Call of Duty to Overwatch and, famously, the Guitar Hero franchise which dominated gaming spheres for a decade after its release in 2005.

The company has recently been acquired by Microsoft, a deal which is set to be finalised in days, with CEO Bobby Kotick taking to the stage to be interviewed by James and revealing some eye-popping teasers.

According to Windows Central, the internal employee meeting saw Bobby teasing: “The re-emergence of Guitar Hero and other things would not be possible without the different types of resources.

“And so, you know, just the endless possibilities for the future that are just incredibly exciting.”

While it’s far from confirmation of the popular franchise’s revival, it’s at the very least an indication the company is considering revisiting it.

On stage with James, the CEO also addressed the upcoming acquisition which has been in the works for years: “A big part of what I’ve seen in Microsoft is research and they do development in areas that are extraordinary.

“Being able to tap into their AI and machine learning capability, the data analytics, new ways of thinking about graphics — I just see unlimited potential for what we do.

“We’re uniquely situated as a company because we have the very best franchises in all of video games.”

Guitar Hero was released to critical and commercial acclaim in 2005 with 25 different versions featuring a slew of celebrities and musical icons being released over the next 10 years across PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, the latter of which is the only console that still has the functionality to run the games.
