It’s time to pick up your bass guitars and drumsticks, as Jack Black is back in town to teach you the ABCs of rock n’ roll.
The one half of Tenacious D has revealed that he will reunite with the cast and crew of 2003’s School of Rock. Black said in an interview with ET’s Matt Cohen that the film’s cast has huge plans for the film’s 20th anniversary, which takes place in September later this year.
The 53-year-old has kept his cards close on the details surrounding the reunion. So, it’s unclear whether the cast and crew have any aspirations for a reboot of the Richard Linklater-directed film.
“All those kids — dig this — they were 10 years old when we made that movie and now they’re all, like, 30,” stated Black. “We’re gonna get together and have a 20-year anniversary. We like to jam. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the grownups from School of Rock.”
Written by Mike White, the film sees Black playing the role of guitarist Dewey Finn, who assumes the role of his roommate Ned Schneebly (played by White himself) to become a substitute teacher at a local prep school. Although it began as a means to earn money, Dewey eventually becomes enamored by the musical talents of his class, and he soon forms a band called The School of Rock to perform at the Battle of the Bands competition.
Alongside Black and White, Joan Cusack played the role of prep school principal, Rosalie Mullins. The film also starred iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove as The School of Rock’s band manager, Summer Hathaway.
