IPL 2022: Uncapped Indian players who have already became millionaires | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It’s that time of the year again when the IPL franchises engage in intense bidding wars and splurge mind boggling amounts of money to own the services of the best cricketing talents from across the world.
Some players fetch fat pay cheques, some big names fail to find takers, while some become millionaires without even being in the auction pool, with franchises retaining/picking them through IPL drafts.
The IPL mega auction is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. There will be 590 players who will go under the hammer during the two-day auction.
TimesofIndia.com here takes a look at the uncapped Indian players who pipped capped Indians and foreign players to be retained by the franchises ahead of the auction:
Arshdeep Singh (Left arm medium fast bowler – Retained by Punjab Kings for Rs 4 Cr)
Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is one of the most exciting emerging fast bowling talents in India. He has been impressive since he made his IPL debut in 2019. After his performance in the last edition earned applause from all quarters, it became quite apparent that Arshdeep could well be on Punjab’s shortlist of players to be retained ahead of the auction. The PBKS team management retained the 23-year-old pacer for Rs 4cr ahead of the 15th edition of the IPL ahead of the more experienced Mohammed Shami.

Arshdeep well and truly burst into the scene in the 2021 IPL by taking 18 wickets in 12 games at an economy of 8.27, including a five-wicket haul against Rajasthan Royals. That made him the third youngest player to have bagged a five-wicket haul in the IPL. He continued his wicket-taking spree in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, claiming 10 wickets in 5 matches for Punjab.
In the 23 IPL games he has played so far, Arshdeep has taken 30 wickets at an average of 22.30 and an economy rate of 8.78. He also fared reasonably well in the 2020 edition of the IPL where he picked up nine wickets in eight matches, while he featured in just three matches in his debut season and managed to take as many wickets.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (Left hand opening batter – Retained by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4 Cr)
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive batting prowess was rewarded by the Rajasthan Royals with the 20-year-old left-hander being retained at Rs 4cr. He also became the second-youngest player ever to be retained across all IPL teams before the mega auction. The Royals have clearly identified him as a potential future star and want to heavily invest in him.

Jaiswal, who was bought by the Royals in the 2020 auction for a sum of Rs 2.4 crores, has played 13 IPL matches in all so far, scoring 289 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 136.32. He was impressive in the last edition of the league with a tally of 249 runs in 10 matches at an average of 24.90, including a 19-ball fifty against Chennai Super Kings. That effort became the second-fastest fifty by an uncapped player in the IPL. Ishan Kishan’s 17-ball half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 remains the fastest fifty by an uncapped player. The franchise though would like him to step up his game going into the 15th edition.
Jaiswal, who was the youngest Indian to score a List A double ton at the age of 17, has scored 1115 runs in 26 List A matches at an average of 48.47 so far.

Umran Malik (Right arm fast bowler – Retained by SRH for Rs 4 Cr)
When opportunity knocks at your door you should grab it with both hands. And that’s exactly what Umran Malik did in the last edition of the IPL. IPL 2021 was Malik’s second stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad as a net bowler but his fortunes changed quickly when he was drafted into the SRH squad after Thangarasu Natarajan was ruled out of IPL 2021 due to Covid-19.

The right-arm pacer immediately made an impact in his debut match against Kolkata Knight Riders by producing 146-plus speeds in the very first over, and he clocked the 150s twice on the speed gun – the only Indian to have done so in the IPL. The young pace sensation became an overnight star as he went on to deliver the fastest ball of IPL 2021 at 153kmph against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
His ability to regularly clock more than 150kmph prompted Sunrisers to retain the 22-year-old pacer for Rs 4cr ahead of the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jason Holder. The son of a fruit seller from Srinagar, Malik played just three matches last season in which he managed to take two wickets.

Abdul Samad (Right hand batter – Retained by SRH for Rs 4 Cr)
Along with Umran Malik, Sunrisers Hyderabad also decided to retain another uncapped player Abdul Samad for Rs 4cr ahead of the IPL mega auction. Samad made his IPL debut in IPL 2020 and made an instant impact with his power-hitting abilities with the bat.

The right-handed batter, who is also a handy leg-spinner, has not really fired big yet in the 23 matches that he has played so far, making 222 runs with a best of 33. But he has shown that he has the ability to become a notable T20 finisher.
Smad, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, was initially signed by the Sunrisers for Rs 20 lakh, which made him only the fourth cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir after Parvez Rasool, Manzoor Dar & Rasikh Salam to bag an IPL contract.

Ravi Bishnoi (Leg break bowler – Signed by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 4 Cr)
Arguably the best emerging spinner in Indian cricket, leg-break bowler Ravi Bishnoi will be seen donning the jersey of the new IPL outfit, the Lucknow Super Giants from this edition of the league. Lucknow signed the 21 year old Bishnoi as a draft pick ahead of the auction for Rs 4 crore.

Bishnoi, who has the ability to really let the ball rip, has been one of the finds of the Indian Premier League for the Punjab Kings. Bishnoi was picked up by Punjab in the 2020 auction for Rs 2 crore but he was then released by the franchise before this season.
Bishnoi, who hails from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, has done very well in the IPL, taking 24 wickets in 23 matches at a great economy rate of 6.95. In 17 List A games, he has 24 wickets and an economy rate of 5.48. He is one of the young India cricketers who has really caught the attention of the selectors. He was also part of the Indian team, which finished as runners-up in the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup. In that tournament Bishnoi finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, with 17 wickets in 6 games.
Bishnoi was recently rewarded with a maiden India call-up for the ongoing limited-overs series against the West Indies at home. With the teams scheduled to play three T20Is after the ODI series, there is a strong chance of him getting an India cap before the 15th edition of the IPL begins. Lucknow’s decision to pick him up as a pre-auction draft pick though was taken before the India squad was announced.
