England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has welcomed Ravichandran Ashwin into the Rajasthan Royals squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition. Ashwin was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5 crore on Day 1 of the mega auction on Saturday.

England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler welcomed R Ashwin into the Rajasthan Royals squad for the upcoming IPL 2022, while joking that the veteran Indian off-spinner should not worry as he will stay inside the crease.
While Buttler was retained by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the mega auction, Ashwin was bought by the Royals for a sum of INR 5 crore. Notably, during an IPL 2019 game between Rajasthan and Kings XI Punjab, Ashwin had dismissed Buttler by mankading him at the non-striker’s end, a dismissal that sparked a huge ‘spirit of cricket’ debate.

In a video posted by Rajasthan Royals on Twitter, Buttler said: “Hey Ash, Jos here. Don’t worry I am inside the crease, cannot wait to see you in pink for the Royals. Look forward to sharing the dressing room with you.” In IPL 2019, Ashwin and Buttler were involved in a controversy as the former then leading Punjab Kings had dismissed Buttler through ‘Mankad’. This method of dismissal is seen by many as going against the spirit of the game despite it being completely legal.

Ashwin also opened up on sharing the dressing room with Buttler in a video shared by the Royals on their Twitter handle.
“Hello everyone, I got picked by Rajasthan Royals earlier today. I’m extremely delighted that they picked me. They tried hard to get me in the last auction in 2018 but it’s come through finally. I’ve got a great rapport with all of them. Shared a wonderful rapport with Sanju as well so looking forward to giving my complete best for the franchise and hopefully do some special things over the course of the next three years.”
