IPL 2022: Avesh Khan’s ‘bowl slow’ plan worked wonders in Lucknow’s win over Hyderabad | Cricket News – Times of India

NAVI MUMBAI: Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) pacer Avesh Khan provided his team breakthroughs in both the powerplay as well as in the death overs to deny 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) any chances of a comeback here on Tuesday. It eventually scripted Lucknow’s 12-run win in the IPL 2022 match at the DY Patil Stadium.
LSG scored 169/7 and went on to successfully defend the target, thanks to Khan’s bowling spell (4 for 24).
“Effort was to give wickets to the team because that’s what the team wants from me. I wanted to take wickets in powerplay phase and slog-overs phase,” said Khan at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Khan’s first wicket was the prized scalp of captain Kane Williamson in the fourth over of the Hyderabad innings.
“I had thought I’ll bowl slow. I noticed that slower balls were working well in the first innings, so I thought I’d do that as a variation in the powerplay,” said Khan.
After dismissing SRH openers Williamson and Abhishek Sharma in the powerplay, Khan was brought back into the attack in the death overs and took the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Abdul Samad off consecutive balls to be on a hat-trick.

Delhi Capitals were forced to release Khan despite his impressive performances for them in the previous seasons as there is a limit to retaining a certain number of players. That put Khan back in the auction pool, and he was bought by Lucknow.
The 25-year-old pacer hardly took time to adjust to the new set-up.
“The set-up is great with (Gautam) Gambhir, (Andy) Bichel, and (Andy) Flower here. They tell me to bowl to my strengths,” said Khan.
Khan’s four-wicket haul helped him bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
