Intel has announced that it will undergo some branding changes with the release of the next-generation processors.
The upcoming Meteor Lake processors will usher in a new era of Intel Core processors, as part of the company’s biggest brand update in 15 years.
One of the significant changes is the removal of the ‘i’ from processor tiering on future generations, starting with Meteor Lake. From now on, instead of Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9 CPUs, Intel will name them as Intel Core 3/5/7/9 processors.
Alongside that, Intel has also announced the introduction of the new Intel Core Ultra processors. Intel has stated that these processors will incorporate the latest advancements in client processing technology while streamlining the Intel Core processor lineup to cater to a broader range of mainstream offerings.
“Our client roadmap demonstrates how Intel is prioritizing innovation and technology leadership with products like Meteor Lake, focused on power efficiency and AI at scale,” said Caitlin Anderson, Intel vice president and general manager of client computing group sales. “To better align with our product strategies, we are introducing a branding structure that will help PC buyers better differentiate the best of our latest technology and our mainstream offerings.”
Intel has asserted that the Meteor Lake processors signify a significant turning point in Intel’s client processor roadmap. These forthcoming CPUs will be the inaugural client processors constructed on the Intel 4 process. Additionally, they will embrace chiplet design facilitated by the Intel Foveros 3D packaging technology. Notably, they will also become Intel’s inaugural client processors to incorporate a dedicated AI engine.
