After winning the toss and deciding to bat first opener Shubman Gill hit 126 off 63 balls as the homeside reached 234 for four.

It was India’s fifth highest total in T20 international cricket.

Rahul Tripathi hit 44, while Michael Bracewell, Blair Tickner, Ish Sodhi and Daryl Mitchell took a wicket each.

Needing two runs a ball, New Zealand were never in the contest with the top four batters failing to reach double figures.

They were 22 for five after five overs and thanks to Daryl Mitchell managed to limp through to the 13th over before being bowled out for 66.

Finn Allen made three, Devon Conway one, Mark Chapman no score, Glenn Phillips two and Michael Bracewell eight.

Mitchell (35 ) and Mitchell Santner (13) put on 32 for the sixth wicket.

New Zealand did manage to avoid their record low score in T20 internationals of 60, scored against Sri Lanka in 2014 and Bangladesh in 2021.

It was India’s biggest winning margin over New Zealand in terms of runs.

India won the series 2-1.

India also won the ODI series 3-0.

The Black Caps now return home with their next assignment a test series against England.
