Important to conduct class 12 exams in interest of students: Karnataka minister – Times of India

BENGALURU: Karnataka state primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar said it’s important to conduct class 12 exams in the interest of students. Karnataka boards II pre-university exam is currently planned for a time when the cases dip. Students will be notified 15-20 days in advance. Exams should be held in some simplified format.

The minister was speaking at a meeting called by the Centre to discuss the possibility of holding class 12 exams on Sunday. A press release from the minister’s office said that many states and the CBSE were in favour of conducting the class 12 exams at the meeting.

Karnataka has the experience of conducting SSLC exams in 2020 when the first wave had receded. “The centre has already said exams should be in a simplified format. Keeping in mind the student’s future, concerns of parents, central government’s recommendation and current preparations, a suitable decision will be taken in the next few days in the interest of children,” said Kumar.

Some said the exam process should be simplified. Even if it’s simplified, it will take atleast 45 days to be completed. In Karnataka, the question papers are ready. The number of centres will be increased and exams can be held in a safe manner.

“In case the exam is held in July, it’s possible to announce results in August. Other competitive exams like NEET, JEE and CET can thus be held in August,” he added. Kumar thanked the government for holding the consultation process, citing it will boost the confidence of the stake holders.
