VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam has revamped its elective courses for its two-year, non-residential post graduate programme for experienced professionals (PGPEx/MBA) for the 2022-24 batch. Several new-age elective courses from areas like business model analysis, entrepreneurial leadership, digital marketing, project financing, data analytics, etc. will foster a deep understanding in areas of interest of the students.
According to the IIM-V officials, the PGPEx curriculum is specifically designed for experienced individuals who look forward to leadership roles. Even though the institute is likely to move into its permanent campus in Gambheeram in June, the PGPEx programme will continue from the transit campus in Andhra University.
As Andhra Pradesh is deprived of such executive management education opportunities in premier business schools, the course has become a major draw for the employees of various public sector undertakings as well as the corporate sector. For instance, nearly 40% of the students enrolled in the 2021-23 batch belong to various PSUs and government organisations.Director, IIM-Visakhapatnam, Prof M Chandrasekhar said the core courses, offered in the first year, will cover the whole gamut of business management areas and lay a strong management foundation. “In the second year, the PGPEx students can choose their electives from a bouquet of multidisciplinary courses to get a deeper understanding in the functional areas of their interest. The unique programme is positioned to hone the management skills of the students to make them evolve into transformational leaders,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.
“Reinforcing the solid technical abilities of these executives, the programme focuses on improving human abilities and visioning. The programme develops a better understanding of the demands and challenges faced in modern business organisations,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.
Chairperson, PGPEx, Prof Saroj Kumar Pani said classes are conveniently scheduled in the evenings and over weekends. “The programme focuses on experiential and application-oriented learning to nurture leadership competencies and requisite skills. At the end of the course, the students will have functional expertise as well as a generic knowledge about all areas of management. The programme also comprises a capstone project, an international immersion programme and a course of independent study,” said Prof Saroj Kumar.
Prof Saroj Kumar added that 30 per cent of the PGPEx students from the last batches are holding CXO positions across various private and public sector organisations. “This year, we are looking at more diversity in terms of the backgrounds of the students. The course structure will be more rigorous. We have enhanced our focus on industry linkages,” said Prof Saroj.
