ICSE, ISC results 2021: Class performance may decide the marks of students – Times of India

KOLKATA: Students of classes IX to XII in schools affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will be evaluated throughout the year and marks scored in the exams and projects, including unit tests, half-yearlies and annual examinations will be simultaneously tabulated both by the school and the Council to help the latter compute the mark sheet for ICSE and ISC should offline examinations get cancelled due to the pandemic.

Speaking to the heads of schools, CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon said the continuous evaluation, like it is done in international boards, will ensure fairness. Modalities on uniformity in the continuous evaluation process are being worked out and will be shared with schools soon.

Explaining the decision, St Augustine’s Day School-Ripon Street principal Richard Gasper said that since the pandemic could linger on for a few more years, the Council has assured schools that the manner of evaluation will be continuous from the very beginning so that there is no uncertainty if the final exams are curtailed or cancelled.

Since the cancellation of this year’s ICSE exam for Class X students, the Council has been struggling to get the scores of students in classes IX and X from the schools. The Council had asked the schools to send the average marks that students had scored in each subject in various internal examinations to use the scores to compute the ICSE mark sheet. But out of 2,422 schools, only 193 have submitted the marks. Now, the Council has set a fresh deadline of May 15 for submission of marks. Schools were warned that any delay will have a cascading effect declaring the results.

Principals though have multiple queries on assessment and parity between pre-board tests that were held online and those schools that took it on the campus. The Council has assured that parity will be maintained.

While some schools pointed to the delayed start in the session to inquire if the Class XI syllabus would be reduced, Arathoon told the principals there were no plans to do so.

For tabulation of the internal assessment of Class XII students who are to appear for ISC, schools have been asked to send the marks of students who have appeared in the practicals while leaving out the others to be filled up at a later date.
