Microsoft has started to roll out the Windows 11 operating system to compatible devices starting today (October 5). The company expects all eligible devices to receive the update by mid-2022. Announced in June, Windows 11 is the successor to Windows 10, which was launched in 2015. To check if your device has received the update go to Settings > Windows Update. If you have received the update you can download and install from that page. If you haven’t yet received the update, you have three different options to install Windows 11.
– Go to Windows 11 software download page > Click on ‘Download Now’ and follow the instructions.
– On that page, you can click on ‘Create Windows 11 Installation Media’ to create a bootable USB or DVD.
– You can also download a disk image (ISO) for virtual machine install or any bootable media.
According to the company, Windows 11 is built on the same foundation as the Windows 10 and it is designed to work efficiently on both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices. The update adds a refreshed look and more apps to your devices. On Windows 11, The taskbar looks similar to the one seen on Mac and the context menus, popups and windows have rounded corners.
The update is compatible with almost every device that supports Windows 10 but to be sure if your device is compatible for the update you install the Microsoft PC Health Check app on your device. The app runs through the system configurations and will give you the required information. You can also go through the minimum hardware requirements issued by the company: 1Ghz processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB available storage, graphic card that supports DirectX 12, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 and 720p resolution display. The company also suggests that for best Windows 11 upgrade experience, eligible devices should be running Windows 10, version 20H1 or later.
