As a Cengage Faculty Partner, I have had the fortune of working “behind the scenes” with Cengage to create, edit, and share outstanding learning products. Like most of you reading this blog, my full-time job is teaching and preparing the next generation to succeed in their future careers. I am a Professor of Biological Sciences at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida where I share my enthusiasm and knowledge of Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. I teach courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Additionally, I share my passion for applied and hands-on learning as the Director for the Office of Undergraduate Research. As I approach 20 years of teaching higher education, it continues to provide me with rewarding moments.
Working with Cengage
More recently, I began working with Cengage. I write content and provide feedback on Cengage learning products based upon what I know will entice my students to absorb the subject matter and enhance their learning. I am privileged to work on Dr. Elizabeth Co’s Anatomy and Physiology 1st edition textbook (2023) and Drs. Elizabeth Co and Hilary Engebretson’s Anatomy and Physiology Lab Manual 1st edition (2024). I wrote and/or edited Learn Its, Apply It case studies, labs, and the Instructor Manual. I also co-hosted an Anatomy and Physiology Focus Group to market the new products.
It’s rewarding to utilize my knowledge of what attracts students to read/study the content, what keeps students captivated with the material, and ways to incorporate all types of learners in learning products that will be used worldwide. In other words, the biggest reward is knowing I make a difference in developing learning products that will successfully help students learn.
How you can help shape future learning products
In addition to providing my expertise, I also absorb new knowledge about the creation of products at Cengage. This includes authoring, technical editing with subject-matter experts, copy editing, artwork, implementation, and marketing.
