How Google Docs’ new feature will alert users of any changes made – Times of India

Google keeps on updating its collaboration tools available in the Workspace suite with new features to make it easier for users to work with their colleagues, especially during remote-working situations. Google Docs is one such important tool that frequently receives new features. Now, the tech giant has updated its blog post to announce a new edit notification feature for Google Docs that will soon notify users whenever additions and removals are made to their content. Google has also confirmed that these edit notifications will be delivered to users via email and will contain details about “what changes were made, when the changes were made, and who made them.”

The tech giant has announced that the edit notification feature in Google Docs will be rolled out over the next month. Moreover, the company has also confirmed that this feature will be made available to all Google Workspace customers, including legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers as well as users with personal Google Accounts.

Google has officially mentioned that the edit notification feature is not enabled by default and users have to activate the tool on a “per-document basis.” By enabling it, users will receive alerts to notify users when someone else adds or removes content from the document.
How to enable this feature
As mentioned earlier, Google Docs’ edit notification feature has to be enabled on a per-file basis and users can also activate it directly in a document. Users will be allowed to either tap on the notification settings dropdown menu (bell icon) or will be able to visit the menu from the Tools option on the top. This new page will allow users to turn on/off comments and will also offer preferences in Gmail to control. However, users might need Dynamic Email for that to work.

Google has explained in its blog post that “staying on top of relevant changes and comments across multiple documents can be difficult.” The company has further claimed that the ability to specify which comments and changes the user wants to be notified about will help them to stay updated about the content that needs their most attention and can also keep a track of collaboration.
