Honkai Star Rail: Pity System, Explained

Quick Links

Getting new characters and Light Cones is a large part of Honkai Star Rail, similar to Genshin Impact. You’ll use Star Rail Passes on the Standard and Limited-Time Warp Banners, but you’ll only get 4-Star and 5-Star items when you reach a certain amount of pulls.

In Honkai Star Rail, this is called the Pity System. This means you’ll need to make a fixed number of pulls on the Warp Banners before you’ll be guaranteed 4-Star and 5-Star items. Otherwise, you’ll continue getting 3-Star items with a low chance of getting anything higher. Here’s everything you need to know.

How Does The Pity System Work?

The Pity System is a gacha mechanic used in Honkai Star Rail that allows you to get a guaranteed 4-Star or 5-Star item after a certain number of pulls (Warps) on each Banner. The Banners will have different Pity limits. Here are the Pity limits for each of them:

Banner Type

4-Star Pity Limit

5-Star Pity Limit

Character Event Warp Banner

10 Warps

90 Warps

Light Cone Event Warp Banner

10 Warps

80 Warps

Regular Warp Banner

10 Warps

90 Warps

Since the Regular Warp Banner has both Light Cones and Characters, you’ll be guaranteed either a 4-Star Light Cone or Character at 10 pulls, and a 5-Star Light Cone or Character at 90 Pulls. However, before you reach the Pity limit, you still have a chance to get 4-Star and 5-Star items beforehand. The base chance of getting a 5-Star item is 0.600%, and the consolidated chance is 1.600%. The base chance of obtaining a 4-Star entity is 5.100%, 4-Star characters at 2.550%, and 4-Star Light Cones at 2.550%. The consolidated chance of obtaining these 4-Star rewards including the guarantee is 13.000%. This means you still have a small chance to get a 4-Star or 5-Star item before you are guaranteed the item at either 10 pulls, 80 pulls, or 90 pulls. If you don’t get them early, though, you will automatically receive a 4-Star item at 10 pulls, and a 5-Star item at 80 or 90 pulls depending on the Banner.

Along with this, each Banner will have featured characters or Light Cones. These featured characters and Light Cones will have a 50% drop rate, meaning you have a 50% chance of pulling the featured item rather than a standard item. Standard items include characters and Light Cones that are featured in the Standard Warp Banner for reference.

How To Use The Pity System

Now that you are aware of how the Pity System works, you’ll need to know how you can use this mechanic to your advantage. To start, when you open up the Warp Banner page, you can click ‘View Details’ at the bottom. From here, you’ll be able to see all the Pity System limits and what characters or Light Cones are currently featured.

Right next to this, you can also check ‘Records’. This page will be incredibly beneficial to you, as it allows you to track how many pulls you have made on each Banner so far. It will provide all the information on what item you pulled and what time you pulled it. With this, you can go through each page and count the amount of pulls you’ve made to be able to tell when you will receive a guaranteed 4-Star item or 5-Star item. When you hit the 80 or 90 Pity limit, and you receive a 5-Star item, your counting should reset, and you’ll start from zero. Also, on Character and Weapon Limited-Time Event Banners, if you have pulled a certain amount on the Banner but haven’t reached 80 or 90 pulls yet, when the new Banner starts, you won’t start from zero but instead have the same amount of pulls left before you get to 80 or 90. For example, let’s say you’ve made 50 pulls on the Silver Wolf Banner, and it switches over to the Luocha Banner. You’ll only need to make 40 more pulls before you are guaranteed a 5-Star item.
