While playing Hogwarts Legacy, players will come across many different locations that are blocked by locked doors. This can be frustrating when you’re trying to explore Hogwarts and see all it has to offer. They will also find different chests around the map that cannot be opened due to being locked.
Thankfully, there is a spell that will help you get around these. This spell is called Alohomora, and it will unlock any door or chest that you need it to. However, there are three different levels to this spell, and you need to have the correct level of the spell unlocked to unlock certain doors and chests. Here’s a guide for all the things you need to know about this spell and unlocking things.
How To Unlock Alohomora
During your time at Hogwarts, you will be approached by Gladwin Moon, the groundskeeper, and asked to meet him at night during the quest “The Caretaker’s Lament.” (This quest will take place directly after Percival Rackham’s Trial.) The easiest way to find him is to use the Grand Staircase Floo Flame. Once you meet him, he will ask you to find Demiguise statues and remove the moons from them. These items are scattered all around the game and can be difficult to find. He says that someone has placed them around Hogwarts to scare him, and he is too terrified to remove them himself. In order to reach the first one he wants you to get, you will need to unlock a door. This is where he will teach you the Alohomora spell.
How To Unlock Each Alohomora Level
In order to unlock the different levels of Alohomora, you will need to bring more Demiguise statues to Gladwin. Thankfully, these can be found in Hogsmeade and around the world map. You will need 22 to complete the quest, and all of these are needed to unlock all three levels of Alohomora. Here is what you need to unlock each level of Alohomora.
- Level 1 Alohomora: Reach the quest “The Caretaker’s Lament”
- Level 2 Alohomora: Bring Gladwin Moon back nine different moons from Demiguise statues
- Level 3 Alohomora: Bring Gladwin Moon back 13 different moons from Demiguise statues
The higher the level of Alohomora you have, the more locks you can unlock.
How To Pick Locks
Picking locks can be a difficult thing in Hogwarts Legacy. The game doesn’t exactly tell you how to do it, you need to figure it out on your own. You want to move the outer ring (this corresponds to the green spark and can be done using the left joystick or the Q and E buttons) until you see the gears in the bottom right move. Then, you will want to keep pushing the lock in that direction and the gears will spin. The inner ring (corresponding to the red spark and done by using the right joystick or the A and D buttons) is the same thing. You want to move it until you see the red inner gear moving. Then you will push the lock in that direction (while also pushing the lock in the required direction for the green spark).
Here is a video demonstrating this.
Figuring out lock picking can take some time, so don’t get discouraged if you find it difficult at first. With time and practice, you can become a pro in no time!
