Hema Malini did not want to wear white sari in ‘Kranti’, after her marriage with Dharmendra; Manoj Kumar gave this punishment to the ‘dream girl’

It was in 1980 that Hema Malini, the dream girl, got married to Dharmendra. Hema Malini was one of the top actresses of 70th and 80th and also the busiest.

At the time of her marriage, she was shooting for the movie ‘Kranti’, which was a superhit. Kranti, which was directed and produced by actor Manoj Kumar, was a multi-starrer film. Manoj Kumar had put all his stakes and wealth in making of it.

Hema Malini was also shooting for her second film Razia Sultan in those days.

The next day after the wedding, Hema Malini reached the sets of Kranti and wanted the shoot to finish soon because she had to go for the shooting of Razia Sultan.

Manoj Kumar did not like this alleged “unprofessional attitude” of Hema Malini as he was working really hard on his movie.

This really annoyed Manoj. As a reprimand, Manoj kept Hema sitting on the set without work for the whole day.

Hema got angry and went back to her house. Hema was actually giving more importance to the film ‘Razia Sultan’, she felt that the film would be a hit.

But when both the films were released, Razia Sultan do not do well and ‘Kranti’ was a superhit.

When Kamal Amrohi, the director of ‘Razia Sultan’ came to know about this, he called Manoj Kumar. In such a situation, Manoj Kumar told Amrohi that Hema should have taken permission from me to do another film. While, I was not told that she is shooting for any other film, other than ‘Kranti’. However, there is a more famous story behind it. It is said that Hema Malini did not want to wear a white sari in the shoot as she was married and was asking to shoot this scene sometime over which Manoj Kumar got angry.
