Kanwar Pal was speaking to media persons at his residence in Jagadhri town of Yamunanagar district.
“Under the leadership of Union defence minister Rajnath Singh Ji and Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Ji, a meeting was held with the state and UT education ministers, secretaries and board chairpersons on Sunday. Suggestions were sought from all regarding conduction of board examinations”, said Kanwar.
“In my suggestion I have told the Union ministers that our students are under stress about the dates of the exams and how these would be conducted. I believe that the exams should be conducted as per the Covid-19 situation in respective states. There is no need to give any kind of relaxation as the students are also ready for taking exam”, said Kanwar.
About the date sheet of exams, Kanwar said, “We have suggested that the date sheet should be released 20 days prior to the start of examination. In Haryana, earlier we had announced to conduct Class XII exams from June 1 but these got delayed due to problems faced after surge in Covid-19 situation. We have informed the Union minister that we can start the Class XII exams between June 15 to 20 and we are fully prepared for the same”, said Kanwar Pal at his residence.
About the duration of the exam and how the exams would be held, Kanwar Pal said, “The Union ministers had asked that whether the exam should be held for 90 minutes duration or of complete 3 hours duration. I have suggested that we are prepared to hold exam of complete 3 hours duration. But we want to make one change (about the exam centers) which is that the students’ exam centers should be made in the same schools from where they are taking their education. This will be beneficial as the students will not have to travel to far places for taking exam. They will be saved from crowd on their way. Secondly, social distancing can also be implemented efficiently by doing so as there will be fewer students at the same school examination centers.”
Kanwar said that in case any students are affected due to Covid-19 then he suggested that there examination can be taken again at a later stage.
“I have also been suggested that the staff, teachers and officials who will be deputed on the exam duty should be vaccinated before they go into the field”, said Haryana education minister Kanwar Pal.
Kanwar said, “We hope that the Centre government will accept our suggestion and it will also give us permission to start examination between June 15 to 20. We believe that this can be managed and in case, if we have to make any small changes those can be made in the chairmanship of chief minister.”
