Gurgaon’s 1st dengue ward set up at civil hospital – ET HealthWorld

Gurgaon’s 1st dengue ward set up at civil hospitalGurgaon: At least 10 people were found positive for dengue in a rapid fever survey conducted across the city in the past three days. A total of 32 dengue cases have been reported this season so far.

The health department has set up 37 fever surveillance units across the city. Besides, it has set up a dengue ward at the Civil Hospital in Sector 10.

Earlier, only 10 beds were available for dengue patients in the hospital’s emergency ward. Because of the rising number of cases, a dedicated dengue ward has been set up. Meanwhile, all other hospitals have been put on alert.

The health department held a meeting with MCG officials on Monday to assess the fogging and larva sample collection status. “We have set up a dedicated unit for dengue patients. Also, we are adding 12 beds in the emergency ward. We had only 10 beds for dengue cases. As the numbers are increasing, we are adding more beds to accommodate patients,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.

To carry out extensive fogging, the health department has shared geo-mapped hotspots with MCG officials. This includes areas like Wazirabad, Palam Vihar, Basai, Kanhai Colony, Sarhaul Village, Sector 21 A, Sector 39, Sector 12 A, Sector 47, Dharam Colony, Sector 12, Udyog Vihar Phase-1 and Jharsa Village.

“We have constituted 13 rapid response teams, which are monitoring the hotspots where dengue cases have been reported,” he added.

The CMO pointed out that the city is receiving dengue patients from nearby districts, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. So far, no dengue-related death has been reported in the city. The doctors have advised residents to wear full-sleeved clothing and to use mosquito repellents.

“Vector-borne diseases are on a rise despite an increase in humidity levels. The dengue-causing mosquitoes breed in freshwater and it takes a week for the larvae to hatch,” said a doctor at the Civil Hospital.

In 2015, Gurgaon had reported a high number of dengue cases (451). The figure then dipped to 86 in 2016, 66 in 2017and rose slightly to 93 in 2018. In 2019, a total of 22 cases of dengue were reported in the city, and the number rose to 51 in 2020.
