Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Rockets Off to a $282 Million Global Weekend Box Office Victory

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has rocketed off to a $282 million global weekend box office victory, with $114 million coming from North America and $168.1 million brought in from overseas.

As reported by Comscore, this third and final entry of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy performed better than the $94 million earned by the 2014 original film domestically, but it couldn’t quite reach the heights of the $146 million domestic opening of the second film in 2017.

The film also couldn’t quite jump as high as The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $137 million three-day domestic weekend haul, but it is comfortably sitting at the second highest-grossing film of 2023 in North America. That means it did better than the $104 million Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania brought in earlier this year.

In our Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 review, we said, “The Guardians of the Galaxy deliver their swan song in Vol. 3 and it’s a rockin’ good time. Rocket’s tragic origins, great action and effects, and James Gunn’s soulful style send them out on an emotional high note.”

Speaking of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the Nintendo adaptation placed second behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with domestic box office sales of $18.6 million. Mario’s big-screen adventure recently crossed $1 billion at the global box office and its grand total worldwide is now sitting at $1.15 billion.

Evil Dead: Rise came in third with $5.73 million, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret placed fourth with $3.38 million, and Love Again rounded out the top five with $2.42 million.
