GTA Online: Rockstar Introduces New Rules Removing Crypto and NFTs From Roleplay Servers; Details

Roleplay servers have become the fad on Rockstar Games’ popular RPG title, Grand Theft Auto V.

With GTA V almost reaching a decade of existence, the title has spawned off an entirely genre of RPG gaming with these servers, which involve real characters voiced by the players themselves.

Over the past 2-3 years, several servers have popped up with different environments and user bases. However, all of these don’t fall under any supervision of Rockstar Games, which means players might be at risk of playing on the wrong server.

Recently, Rockstar Games shutdown popular rapper Lil Durk’s server “Trenches”, which sold in-game items like houses and vehicles through its website. The website allowed for the sale of these items through the trade of virtual items like cryptocurrency.

Rockstar Games explains its enforcement policies for GTA V RP servers

In a recent statement, the developers at Rockstar Games clarified its stance on RP servers. “Rockstar Games has always believed in reasonable fan creativity and wants creators to showcase their passion for our games,” says Rockstar.

The company further explained that their policy on the matter will align with that of single-player mods for the game. Therefore, it’s very likely that the developers will enforce any actions if these servers:

  1. Misuse Rockstar Games trademarks or game intellectual property (IP) m
  2. Misuse other IP in the project, including other Rockstar IP, real-world brands, characters, trademarks or music
  3. Commercial exploitation, including the sale of “loot boxes” for real-world currency or its in-game equivalent, the sale of virtual currencies, generating revenue via corporate sponsorships or in-game integrations, or the use of cryptocurrencies or crypto assets (e.g. “NFTs”)
  4. Making new games, stories, missions, or maps
  5. Interfering with our official multiplayer or online services, including Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online.
