GSHEB 12th exam 2021: No OMR test as papers already set, says Gujarat Board – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The state government’s insistence on full three-hour exams in the traditional manner for Class XII students seems to be the result of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board’s (GSHEB) reluctance to prepare new sets of question papers and for want of time to undertake the entire exercise.

While there is a demand to reduce the exam time from three hours during this Covid-19 pandemic by limiting the test to multiple-choice questions (MCQs) using the optical mark reader (OMR) method, the state government has stuck to the old fashioned examination format. This is because the process of preparation of question papers has been done and experts and board officials do not want to undertake the entire exercise of setting new question papers, moderating and printing them. This is very time consuming, said an expert.

Sources said that during the meeting at which the government decided on regular three-hour tests for Class XII from July 1, an option for a 90-minute test with only MCQs using OMR format was also discussed in order to reduce the Covid-19 risk to students. However, it was felt that fresh preparations would take at least one more month and it was thus decided to continue with the old method.

Congratulations!
