Gran Turismo 7 Has Been Offline And Unplayable For More Than A Day

Gran Turismo 7’s servers went down on March 17 for a two-hour period of maintenance, but more than a day later, the game is still offline. Ordinarily this wouldn’t be seen as a problem, but due to the online requirements of Gran Turismo 7, the game is virtually unplayable in its offline mode.

Most of Gran Turismo 7 requires online server access, and at the time of writing, the only update from Polyphony has been an an official statement that noted: “We are extending today’s scheduled maintenance for the Gran Turismo 7 servers. We ask for your patience while we work to complete the maintenance. Due to an issue found with Update 1.07, we are extending the current server maintenance period. We will confirm the completion time as soon as possible.”

So what has caused the extended outage? Some people have theorized that the recent 1.07 patch has broken the game–and has increased the overall grind to earn credits–while some car-spiracy theorists have suggested that save data may have been wiped from the servers. Sony has not made a formal comment on the situation either, which has not gone over well with anyone who paid the $70 cover price for the racing simulator.

Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi has apologized for the outage, but there’s still no word yet on when it’ll be playable again. In our Gran Turismo 7 review, Alex Goy said, “It plays as close to driving a real car as you can get on a console, and much like shaving a few seconds off your commute, or playing on your favorite road in the real world, the game draws you in with challenges, physics, and luscious visuals.”
