Das secured a 99.999 NTA score in the JEE (Main)-2021 paper-1 examination. Paper-I consists of BE/BTech. He was the topper of JEE (Main)- 2021 (February session) too. After four sessions of this entrance test are over, the ranks of the candidates were released on Wednesday taking into consideration the best of the four NTA Scores.
The topper, a native of Balasore town, said he was balancing between coaching and school classes while preparing for JEE Main. “I was religiously following NCERT books for preparation of this national level entrance test. I was also practising previous year and other model questions,” he added.
He said mathematics is his favourite subject. “Initially physics was tough for me, but later I understood this subject with the help of our teachers,” he said, adding, “Now I am focusing on the JEE Advanced examination which will be conducted on October 3. If I get All India Rank between 50 and 60, I can get a seat in the IIT Bombay.”
Das, son of a businessman, said he had taken admission in the Sai International School Bhubaneswar after passing out class X from an Odia medium school in Balasore. As he did not like hostels, his mother came to stay with him at his rented accommodation in the city. “Initially, I was facing problems understanding English and terminology of some subjects. I faced a problem in the Plus II the first year. After the intervention of teachers, I came out of the language issues within a few months,” he added.
He said the Covid-19 pandemic has not created any hurdle for his preparation. “Though the Covid-19 has created havoc across the world, it did not impact my study. I got ample time at home for study as I did not travel to coaching class and school. Examinations were conducted in a safe environment with proper social distancing,” he added.
Das was also the Odisha topper of the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) to get a seat in the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER).
“I am elated that Gautam has secured All India Rank 28 and topper of the state in the JEE (Main)-2021. His hard work, perseverance, and dedication have reaped the fruits of success. He has not only made the school proud, but the entire state is proud of his infallible accomplishment,” said Silpi Sahoo, chairperson of Sai International Education Group.
Tanya Dixit was the state topper in the female category with an NTA score of 99.865.
