Editor’s Note: Google India has not launched the Pixel Fold in the country along with the Pixel Tablet. The company has only released the Pixel 7a for an introductory price of Rs. 39,999 at the time of writing.
After an official unveiling of the phone last week, Google has finally shared more details on the Pixel Fold, which launches next month for $1800.
At the 2023 Google I/O keynote, the tech giant shared more information on its first foldable Pixel phone. This includes the device, a 5.8-inch phone that folds out into a 7.6-inch tablet. Like the recently-announced Pixel 7a, the Pixel Fold is powered by the Tensor G2 chip.
In a press release, Google mentions that the Pixel Fold will feature a 48-megapixel main camera sensor. Due to the phone’s design, it will Google says the device will give you “all the benefits of a tablet,” this includes a new tabletop mode that will allow you to prop the phone without a tripod and use it to do things such as capture photos or watch videos on services like YouTube. Further mention that the Pixel Fold in tabletop mode can utilize a new palm gesture to trigger the shutter, allowing for an easier way to take a group photo instead of using a self-timer.
Google touts that the Pixel Fold is the “thinnest foldable on the market.” Though that market is not entirely competitive, at least in the United States, when you factor the phones it is currently competing with are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip.
The Pixel Fold is available starting today, though no firm release date was given for the Pixel Fold aside from it will begin shipping sometime in June.
