Multiple crew members were injured while working on stunt on the set of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 which is currently filming in Morocco, IGN has learned. Variety first broke the news.
“While filming a planned stunt sequence on the set of the Gladiator sequel, an accident occurred during which several crew members experienced non-life-threatening injuries,” a Paramount Pictures spokesperson said in a statement to IGN. “The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those who were impacted immediately received necessary care. They are all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment.”
“The well-being of the cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us, and we have strict health and safety procedures in place on all our productions,” the statement continued. “We will continue monitoring the situation and taking all necessary precautions as we resume production.”
According to the initial Variety report, six people received treatment and four remain in the hospital. All of crew members affected were treated for burn injuries, per the report, and no members of the cast were injured.
Filming began just earlier this month on the highly anticipated sequel, which currently has a Nov. 22, 2024 release date. Scott is returning to direct from a script by David Scarpa, and it boasts a star-studded cast with the likes of Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Moon Knight’s May Calamawy, Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn, and returning star Connie Nelson.
The 2000 original was obviously a huge hit both critically and commercially, scoring 12 Oscar nominations and winning Best Picture.
