Game Shows have Displaced All other Online Casino Games

The Category Brings a Third of Online Casino Operator Turnovers

A primary data analysis recently released by SevenJackpots has revealed a clear dominance of game shows over all other online casino gaming categories, including even roulette and blackjack games. It turns out that live casino adaptations of the game show format, that the older among us used to associate with the TV screen, now account for a massive one third of online casino operator turnovers.

A set of internal business intelligence data on player sessions and turnover figures for a ten-month period between January 1 and October 31, 2022 provided to the SevenJackpots research team by a certain online casino platform, has shown that game shows have generated 34.48 percent of the site’s turnover, more than any other gaming genre.

For comparison, the second most massive game category in terms of attracted turnovers – roulette games, accounts for 22.91 percent of the platform’s income, while blackjack games have generated almost two times less turnover than game shows – 16.11 percent.

All other types of games like baccarat (7.45 percent of the registered turnover), slots (4.59 percent), Sic Bo (3.06 percent), or Andar Bahar (2.97 percent) are placed further down the chart.

What Makes Game Shows so Popular?

Game shows have been popular like forever, or at least since the dawn of radio and television, and the only difference from the previous century and now is that you no longer need an expensively equipped studio and a large filming crew to produce a game show.

Technological advancements and digitization, backed up by the spread of smartphones and mobile data usage, have brought the game show category within the reach of regular online casinos and their customers.

At the same time, “the revolutionary new genre kept features familiar and appreciated by most players – the real-time excitement of decision-making, the virtual representation of a social event, charismatic hosts, and easy-to-grasp game rules,” the authors of the study explain some of the major factors that have affected game show popularity.

“Moreover, there has always been a reference to elements of skill, even if there is little or no knowledge involved,” the SevenJackpots research team adds.

This is how evergreen gaming concepts that have long ago turned into TV classics, such as “Wheel of Fortune” and “Deal or No Deal”, are now on offer at online casinos together with all classic casino games like roulette and baccarat, but with much more options for players (previously just viewers) to intervene and interact with the host or with the other players.

This, however, has not deprived good old TV entertainment from game show content, as TV channels have moved towards more skill-based formats. Perfect examples for this are Kaun Banega Crorepati and Khullja Sim Sim – the Indian adaptations of globally popular game show formats like “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and “Let’s Make a Deal”.
