Welcome to a special edition of Quick Q – Monday Media’s weekly series dedicated to finding out more about the personalities that matter most in the media landscape.
Each week, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age ask figures across corporate media, business, sport, federal politics, radio, television and culture to answer questions about their lives, careers, hobbies and news habits.
This week’s conversation is with actor Nicholas Braun, who was in town last week promoting the final season of one of HBO’s most popular shows, Succession, where Braun plays “Cousin Greg”.
How did you get your big break?
I would say my big break was this movie Disney movie called Sky High. I was 16 or 17…I went to a boarding school, and I was on spring break from school and went to LA. I was already acting and had done some stuff but all of a sudden, I was up for this big Disney movie.
I got the part of a guy who glowed in the dark. It was about a high school for the children of superheroes. My character glowed in the dark, which was a pathetic power, but the part was just really fun.
Once that movie came out, it was like “okay, I’m in an actual movie in the movie theatres” and then I got a manager and everything sort of took off from there. Weirdly, after Succession, that is the next most popular and like memorable thing for people that I’ve done. It was maybe my finest performance and I did go method for that one.
What are your daily news media habits?
I am a New York Times guy. Some Wall Street Journal but really just the Times. I’ll look at it three to four times a day. I read Deadline, which is a movie and TV industry site too.
