Paramount+ has announced the Frasier revival is officially starting production this week and that 10-time Emmy Award-winning director James Burrows will be helming the series’ first two episodes.
Frasier, which will once again star Kelsey Grammer and be filmed in front of a live audience in Los Angeles, is set to follow “Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston, Mass., with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. Frasier has re-entered the building!”
Grammer, who is also serving as executive producer on this revival, will be joined by “Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son, Freddy; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor, Alan; Toks Olagundoye as Alan’s colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia; Jess Salguerio as Freddy’s roommate, Eve; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew, David.”
Burrows, who is the “most nominated director in the history of television,” is best known for being the co-creator, executive producer, and director of Cheers. He has also worked on such shows as Will & Grace, the original Frasier, Friends, Wings, Night Court, Taxi, Dear John, and more.
Paramount+’s Frasier is coming to life thanks to writers Chris Harris of How I Met Your Mother fame and Life in Pieces’ Joe Cristalli. Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon will also take on the executive producer role.
Frasier originally aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004 and was a spin-off of Cheers. Grammer won four Emmys during his time playing Dr. Frasier Crane, and he has been eyeing this reboot since as far back as 2018.
