Fortnite update 25.20 patch notes, server downtime, Futurama crossover and more

Fortnite developer Epic Games has confirmed plans to release a new update for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Android and Nintendo Switch. Fortnite update 25.20 has a July 26 release date and a 9am BST UK launch time. The slightly delayed new update makes all the usual gameplay tweaks and bug fixes, while also introducing characters from the Futurama series. The news was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, alongside a teaser about what fans can expect.

“Embrace the future in 25.20,” reads an Epic tweet. “Downtime begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking disabled shortly beforehand.”

According to Epic Games, matchmaking will be disabled at around 8.30am BST, which means you won’t be able to join a game until downtime ends.

Speaking of which, the servers are expected to come back online at around 11am BST, so you can jump back in as soon as the update is installed.

In a follow-up tweet, Epic Games also confirmed that Siphon wouldn’t be returning to most Fortnite tournaments.

“With the release of the v25.20 game update tomorrow, we’ll be keeping Siphon enabled for the rest of FNCS Major 3 and Last Chance Major, and returning all other Fortnite tournaments to their previous game settings without Siphon.”

Of course, the most exciting element of the new update is the release of the Futurama crossover skins and items.

According to a leak on 4Chan, the Futurama skins include the main characters of Fry, Bender and Leela.

Fans will also reportedly be able to purchase Mind-Control Parasite Backbling for Fry, as well as the Nibbler Backbling for Leela. Expect additional items to be revealed during the downtime.

Elsewhere, update 25.20 will unvault the Kinetic Boomerang, introduce additional shop items, add the August Crew Pack to the game files and lots more.

GENERAL

• Character may be invisible in the Lobby

 – Some players may find that their character is invisible in the Fortnite lobby

LOCKER

• Scrolling past Mjolnir’s Flight glider in the locker may cause the game to crash

 – Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X may crash out of Fortnite when scrolling past Mjolnir’s Flight glider in their locker.

• Multiple outfits may appear shiny/glossy

 – Multiple outfits, including Skull Trooper may appear shiny/glossy.

• Sound effects missing from the Maxx Axe Pickaxe

 – The Maxx Axe Pickaxe sound effects can no longer be heard despite the sound volume setting.

• Meow Skulls is missing her tail

 – Meow Skulls appears to be missing her tail when any Back Bling is equipped with the outfit.

RANKED

• Players may not be given full weapon damage credit for some Ranked quests

 – Players may have delayed credit toward the “Damage Opponents” Ranked quest or may find that the full weapon damage is not credited toward a Ranked quest.
