Forspoken was initially set to launch for the PlayStation 5 and PC in a matter of days, but after Luminous Productions announced a delay in March this year, a new release date of October 11th was set.
It’s now looking like a second delay could be on the cards at Square Enix, after industry insider Spheshal_Nick claims to have heard that Final Fantasy XVI could take the October release date instead. Although a release date for Final Fantasy XVI has yet to be confirmed, it was reported by VGC back in April that development was in the final stages.

Forspoken Possibly Delayed For A Second Time
On the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast, Nick revealed that his source confirmed the possibility of Square Enix delaying the release of Forspoken once again, but under a certain condition.
Nick states that the condition is dependent on whether or not Square Enix can release Final Fantasy XVI sometime this year. Nick’s source reportedly explained the decision by saying that “If Square can get Final Fantasy 16 out the door this year, if they think they can, apparently they will delay Forspoken again”.
Although Nick went on to point out that this seems like a “weird” decision by Square Enix, co-host Zalker pointed out that releasing two huge titles in the same year doesn’t make much sense. Zalker stated that releasing Final Fantasy XVI first will give it its time to shine, whilst also ensuring the success of Forspoken, as it’s a brand new IP.
Of course, this is simply a rumour, and currently unconfirmed by Square Enix or Luminous Productions. Should it be deemed impossible to release Final Fantasy XVI this year, we could still see Forspoken stick to its current October release date. But in the meantime, we recommend you take this news with a pinch of salt.
