FNAF Security Breach Ruin DLC Launch Date Announced

The highly anticipated free DLC for Five Nights At Fredddy’s: Security Breach, titled Ruin, will be coming later this month, the game’s executive producer confirmed on Friday.

In a news post on the official website for developer Steel Wool Studios, Executive Producer Ray McCaffrey confirmed that we’ll get our first crack at the new thrilling adventure on July 25 at midnight Pacific Standard Time. Ruin will take on the setting of the Pizzaplex that’s become familiar to Security Breach players, but this time, they’ll be taking on the role of a new character in an adventure that ties in with main game protagonist Gregory’s tale.

The July 25 launch date is valid for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC users. While the base game is also available on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, no release dates for the DLC have been announced for either of those platforms. McCaffrey made note of this, saying that limiting the number of platforms for the DLC’s initial launch will allow the development team to focus more on “what matters most – the game itself.”

In the recent announcement, McCaffrey thanked the fans of the series for their patience and wanted to reward them with a sneak peek at some of the things they’ll be able to expect while playing Ruin. That starts by altering the candy-coated setting of the Security Breach base game to make it fit more in line with the dimly lit and dilapadated feel of the rest of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series.

“Our goal was to lean into a more familiar feel Freddy’s fans have come to expect, and in that effort we’ve created DLC that’s far more dark, dreadful, and ominous than the base game,” he explained. “Additionally, given the dilapidated state of the Pizzplex, it’s claustrophobic and littered with the ambiance that naturally (and unnaturally) comes from an abandoned building. There aren’t a bunch massive, well lit areas where you can see and avoid a threat in the distance.”

The DLC is also expected to play quite differently than the base game. While Gregory spent much of his time hiding from the killer animatronics, new hero Cassie’s success will be more dependent on “patience and timing.” While McCaffrey was hesitant to go into any more detail, he did point to the recent announcement trailer for the DLC, which he said “only showed off a small fraction of the fun, and words won’t do the rest justice.”

While Security Breach offered a major gameplay shift in the series, opening up a 3D world of exploration as opposed to the series’ longstanding confines of a single control room with security cameras and door switches, that setup hasn’t been abandoned, as Five Nights at Freddy’s Help Wanted 2 is planned for late this year, exclusively on PSVR 2.
