Ryan Reynolds has released a first look at Wolverine and Deadpool in Deadpool 3. In an Instagram post, Reynolds published a photo showing the superhero pair in costume walking side-by-side.
What’s of particular interest here is Wolverine’s fan-favourite yellow and blue costume made famous by the character’s design from the X-Men comics. Despite portraying the character for more than two decades, Jackman’s Wolverine had never sported the iconic yellow suit and mask from the comics… until now.
Wolverine made his comic debut in Incredible Hulk #180 (1962), with a final page splash that revealed the signature yellow and blue with animalistic stripes that would go on to define the character in the decades to come. Fun fact: in this debut, Wolverine’s Adamantium claws are affixed to his gloves, not extensions of his skeleton. Wolverine’s now-classic yellow threads came with Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975).
In Deadpool 3 Jackman reprises the role fans thought he’d played for the last time in 2017’s Logan. Last week, it was reported Jennifer Garner will make a surprise return as Elektra for Deadpool 3. Garner first played the famous assassin all the way back in 2005’s Elektra.
Deadpool 3’s release date is currently May 3, 2024, but its production will likely be impacted if SAG-AFTRA calls for a strike. The guild representing Hollywood’s actors recently delayed its deadline with studios until July 12.
