The Trial and Error quest in Final Fantasy XVI will have Clive determining if a new Cursebreaker is fit for the job.
Final Fantasy 16 will have Clive exploring the world of Valisthea, helping out Bearers and those from the hideout supporting the cause. The Cursebreakers are the group of soldiers who fight alongside Clive to free the Bearers of the world, but not just anyone is fit for the job.
In the side quest Trial and Error, Clive will be involved with the first task of a new Cursebreaker named Ember. The quest is fairly simple, but the final question about Ember will have players wondering what the correct answer is.
How To Complete Trial And Error
The Trial and Error quest begins at the hideout and will take Clive to Northreach to follow Ember while he tries to steal plans from an Imperial Garrison. After traveling to the Northreach obelisk, talk to the Cursebreakers and follow Ember to the north to the garrison. Upon arriving, you’ll have to fight a single Tot Aevis to save Ember.
This fight is fairly simple as long as you keep dodging around the enemy’s fire-based attacks. Utilize high stagger attacks to break its stagger bar and finish it off easily. After defeating the enemy, return and talk to the Cursebreakers in Northreach before finally returning to the hideout to give Ember’s review.
Upon completing this request, Otto will ask if Ember should receive passing marks. Ultimately, this decision won’t carry weight to the rest of the game and doesn’t matter. This only serves to offer some role-playing opportunities for how the player thinks Clive would react to Ember being unable to fight the monster. While Ember wants to be the next Gav, it’s important to be able to face the monsters of the world. Ember does also complete his task of stealing the plans from the garrison, and it’s up to the player’s interpretation if this distraction was on purpose or not.
