Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 is one of the most beloved Star Wars games ever, but we’ve come a long way in the 26 years since its original release. Now, a fan remake that’s been in the works for three years is available for download for the first time, and while it’s far from the full game, it’s a significant milestone for the project.
Created by fan developer Ruppertle, the remake was made from scratch in Unreal Engine 5. It includes two levels from the original game–including the first level, which is arguably the most well-known part of it–four survival levels, a sandbox mode, and some testing tools. It’s downloadable through Ruppertle’s Discord server.
As shown in the above trailer, the project already includes all the weapons from the original as well as an array of enemies, which is definitely enough for a good dose of nostalgia. There’s also that fight against the AT-ST, so you have that to look forward to.
Jedi Knight isn’t the only Star Wars game to get a fan-made upgrade. Its immediate predecessor, Star Wars: Dark Forces, recently received a long-in-the-works total overhaul that makes it a lot easier to play on modern systems while maintaining its retro charm. No word on the inevitable Shadows of the Empire remake, though.
